The Case of the Illegal Thongs!!!

I know what you're thinking.....Amy with a thong? But here's the story. I took a bunch of high school students to Boise this past weekend for BPA State competition. And life was great. Our students did really well, but that's another blog. On Friday night, we went as a group to BSU campus for dinner, games and a dance. Everyone looked good as we waited in line for dinner. And I thought everything went well, until Dani (pictured on the left) came up to me and said that they won't let her into dinner because she's wearing flip flops. It was at that moment, that I looked down at my own choice of footwear.....flip flops! What an awful advisor I was to lead my students astray by example.

I then went to find Kim from Sugar, to figure out what we were going to do. I looked at her choice of footwear and she had on sandals...but NOT flip flops. It was then that we were approached by a state officer and Clay Long, a BPA State advisor, who analyzed our footwear and declared, Kim was approved and of course, I was not. HOW EMBARRASSING! I tried to get to the bottom of things by asking what the difference was. I like to say "it's a g-string for your foot". I asked if I was showing too much skin. And for someone he didn't find the humor in it. I could tell that I wasn't going to win and certainly didn't want to cause too much trouble so I turned to Dani and said "let's go call a taxi" and we left without looking back.

Once we were outside however, I realized that I didn't have money for a taxi so we hurried up to catch the shuttle back to the hotel. Megen joined us and all along the way we turned kids back who were sporting the illegal footwear. Because the shuttle was making one last trip, the bus driver had no intentions of waiting for us and taking us back so we were stranded at the hotel. We watched for the Sugar bus driver to come back and take us out to dinner, but we never saw her....so we waited, for what, I'm not sure. I soon got a text from Kim that said simply "They're letting people in with flip flops now." I was riled up again! I couldn't believe it! I guess that State advisers had a meeting and realized that it was not printed anywhere that flip flops were illegal and they couldn't keep students from going in. So we made a decision, the three of us grabbed a taxi and had it take us to Olive Garden, and we went out to dinner. We had fun, and the waiter was cute which is always a plus. But I'll never forget the appropriate footwear again!

CASE SOLVED!
